Right, now some of you might be wondering what this section is for, and perhaps rightly so. Still, hopefully this will answer any questions you might have as to how we run Quidditch around here.
A good question indeed. Aside from the fact that one of our mods (*cough*Tobey*cough*) has a bit of a Quidditch obsession in RP terms and demanded that the system be put in place, there are some other perks too
Not only can you gain house points for participating in Quidditch sessions - Your QSP (Quidditch skill points) score for each session will be converted to house points and added to your house total, you can also earn 10 additional house points per 5 non-team sessions you complete - And your QSP score will be tallied, and will aid you in matches (once we get the format down..) as well as good old fashioned bragging rights - and, come on, who doesn't love bragging rights?
QSP (or Quidditch Skill Points) are basically an easy way of assessing people's Quidditch ranking within their team, and within the school at large. Each student will get a basic QSP score when they sign up, which will consist of 10 QSP per year they've been a student of Hogwarts (First year: 10 QSP standard - Third year: 30 QSP standard - 7th Year: 70 QSP standard.) An additional 20 points will also be awarded to students who have a position on a house team.
QSP will be displayed in your mini profile instead of Karma, and are only editable by the staff.
At the start of each week, there will be a thread posted on the Quidditch board that spans the next 7 days in RP time - this thread will be titled by the dates of the week span it is representing - i.e. [Monday 24th - Sunday 30th March]. You may post in the thread from the moment it has been posted, until midnight (GMT) on the last denoted day of sessions - which in the case of the above example, would be until midnight GMT on Sunday, March 30th. (for this reason, we recommend that you set your time-zone to GMT in your 'modify profile' section.)
You can apply for a maximum of two individual training sessions per week, and - if you are a captain or co-captain - an additional team practice session if you are on a house team (all team members may post a response for a team practice, but only Captains/co-Captains can request a session).
Each weekly session post that is made will not only re-explain the basic rules, but will give you a handy little form to fill in to make it easier on our staff to grade each session. The form will look as so - I'll explain things in detail in just a moment:
Name: Your name goes here, pretty self explanatory.
Year/House: Your year and house standing.
Team Position: If you are on a team, state which position you play.
Type of Session: Flying lesson, Quidditch session, or Team session.
Session Notes: Your notes on your session.
Hopefully, the first three options are self explanatory - if not, well I simply refuse to explain something so simple, so you're on your own if you don't get it. As for the latter two options, those are a little less obvious, so I shall indulge you this once
Types of session::
Session Notes::
Your session notes will be used to define what sort of mood your character was in at the time of the session, as well as how we think they may have performed due to such and on occasion, their predetermined skill at the game itself. The more detailed your session notes, the more points you will score. As a rule, if you want to go for some serious points, your notes should include a summary of what your character has been doing that day/week, how you are feeling about the training session, and perhaps some mention of the session itself. If you still don't get what I'm on about, just treat it like a Quidditch based oneshot if you wanna go for maximum points.
It's pretty simple really; Basically, the better you write your session notes, the better your score.
You will be given a score between one and ten for each session you complete, and your score will reflect how well written your session was as well as how we think your character would've performed based on their mood. (i.e. how much detail and effort was put in, the mood your character, any detailing of your characters past day/few days, well written accounts of how you think the session would've gone etc.)
I'll give a couple of examples.. I'll use the same situation for both examples.
'X turned up on the Quidditch pitch for practice, in a bad mood. He'd had a bad day, but thought he did ok at practice.'
'X had had a thoroughly arduous day. He had been late to his first lesson, somehow managing to oversleep even with the typically riotous hustle and bustle in his dormitory come morning. Upon returning to the common room after lunch - during which he had spilt an entire goblet of pumpkin juice over his trousers, making it look rather convincingly like he had pissed himself - he found that his perfectly written potions essay had been shredded into papery slivers, mauled by what he could only assume was a rogue cat in the common room. And subsequently, as he had handed the shredded assignment in, he had been given a detention as well as a dock of 10 house points for even trying to hand in the tattered parchment to Professor Snape during the potions lesson. The greasy old git hadn't even bothered to inquire on what had happened, simply narrowing those beady eyes of his and shaking his head in apparent disgust at the Gryffindor sitting before him as he dolled out a slew of embarrassingly cutting words alongside the aforementioned punishment, right in front of the whole, quickly snickering, class.
X's blood was still boiling as he made his way to the Quidditch pitch, muttering obscenities under his breath the whole while and increasing his pace every few steps in a bid to reach the pitch faster. If anything could take his mind off of this nightmare of a day, it was flying around haphazardly at dizzying heights, trying to hang onto the quaffle and avoid bludgers as Wood launched them at his head. Quidditch had always been a pleasant distraction, ever since he had first joined Hogwarts and the Wizarding world at large, and the game - as well as the mere idea of being able to fly around on a broom of all things - was a concept that fascinated him entirely. Being a muggle-born, it was easy to see the allure in such things, although it was equally easy to see the allure in most things the wizarding world had to offer.. Still, flying was, by far, one of the more interesting.
Finally reaching the pitch, X was uniformed up within minutes - a purely aesthetic habit seeing as this wasn't a team practice - and heading out onto the pitch to meet Wood, one of the schools old Cleansweep 6's dangling from the already cold grasp of one hand. He wasn't all too partial to the school brooms, although he assumed it would be hard for anyone to be all too pleased with them; half of them seemed as ancient as the school itself, and the majority of the collection seemed more fitted to being placed in some hall of sporting antiquities than to be rode around the pitch by Hogwarts' current lot of students. Still, it wasn't as if his parents were likely to purchase him his own broom any time soon; they still had a hard enough time getting to grips with the fact that flying brooms even existed, let alone the fact that their son was hellbent on riding one around at a few hundred feet above ground as a hobby.
With a quick conversation about the aspects that X would like to cover during the course of the session - namely the art of surreptitiously banking with the quaffle in hand, and doing so without hitting the stands or another player in his attempts - he was soon hooking a leg over his broom and shooting off into the air above. Getting into position, he waited for a trademark nod from Wood before he was thrown the quaffle, catching it easily and tucking it beneath one arm as he raced towards the goal hoops at the other end of the pitch, his eyes darting this way and that for Bludgers that Wood was routinely clubbing with a beater bat, sending them straight towards X. He managed to miss the first couple, although the third hit him square on the shoulder just as he was heading into a dive towards one side of the pitch to avoid another bludger that was roaming free in the air for the time being. The pain was intense, as it always was. It often surprised him how dangerous the game itself was, although he reasoned more often than not, that that was the very reason why he found himself so attracted to it - where else could you get a daily dose of non-prescription danger whilst you were still in school? It made him feel more like an adult; more like a man.
Wood gave him a little time to recover from the first hit, his beater club lowering to one side as X rolled his shoulder a few times to try and still the ache. Once the sting had dulled, he nodded back towards Wood, who, with a grin, pointed his wand towards one of the bludgers, which only took a moment to stop in mid air and turn back towards X, hurtling towards him at an alarming rate.
The session continued on this way; with some hits and a good few misses on X's behalf, which he had the sore feeling would only be made more tangible in the hours following the session, where several welt-like bruises would surely appear on the skin of his arms as well as perhaps a few on his shoulders.
Still a little confused? Feel free to reply to this post with any queries you may have and they will be answered as soon as possible. We totally understand that our ranting tendencies often make only vague sense, so don't be shy - ask away!

Types of session::
- Flying Lesson - Mostly for the sake of First Year Students who cannot participate in Quidditch. Aside from the firsties; Flying lesson is for those who are not too handy on a broom and want to learn the basics.
Points are awarded more easily for this type of session, although the maximum points you can earn is 7 as opposed to 10. - Quidditch Session - For any students 2nd year or above. This one is pretty self explanatory, it's a quidditch based session, covering a session related to the game itself rather than the art of flying.
You can earn between 1 and 10 points for completing a session of this nature. - Team Session - For any student on a House team (including reserves) A team session can only be requested by the captain or co captain, and you are only allowed one per week. After a team session has been requested, ALL team members are expected to post - it is up to the captain and co captain to ensure that they do, and points will be docked for those who do not attend (aside from reserves - they may post at their leisure).
You can earn between 1 and 10 points per individually posted team session, as well as an additional team score of 1 to 10 points based on the teams performance on whole.
